History
Celler Pasanau is a boutique winery run by a small family at one of the highest elevations in DOQ Priorat. The family has been making wines for several generations, but in 1995 finished a new winery building with modern equipment just on the outskirts of the village and a short walk to one of their iconic vineyards.
The Wines
They are all about elaboration of indigenous and complimentary varietals in red and white to express the best elaboration of the land where their grapes are grown. With a mixture of old vine and younger vines, you’ll be able to find one that fits your tastes. Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator have given them top marks, and their wines turned heads of several wine journalists who have visited them, including the NY Times and a few other publications. Their quality to price ration is fantastic.
The Land
Located on the edge of the village of La Morera de Montsant, the winery has some of the most breathtaking view across the region towards the Mediterranean Sea, due to their elevation of 500 metres and higher. The vineyard and the winery are as close as you can get to the sheer rock face of the Montsant Mountain range. Your views are brilliantly spectacular no matter which way you turn.
The Winery
The winery is a treat, with a three level set up and due to the fact they are in the hills at high elevation, right underneath the mountain range, Celler Pasanau has massive windows to enjoy the view from the inside of the winery building itself. You’ll see first hand an intimate operation with all the sights and smells you would expect from a boutique winery experience.
The Tour
Celler Pasanau was one of the early adopters of allowing visitors to their winery, and being part of several wine tourism opportunities in the region. Because of this, you’ll have a detailed, entertaining, and authentic experience. Their basic tour gives you a taste of a few wines, some local gastro products to enhance the tasting experience, and a walk thru their iconic La Planeta vineyard, which is a short 10 minute walk from the vineyard.
Secret Tip
If you really enjoy wine, and have a great experience interacting with their staff, they have been known to pull out some extra special experiences and products while on the tour. They are relaxed, but professional and very knowledgeable and they will treat you like family when you go.
