La Cuina d'en Garriga
Helena Garriga and her husband Olivier have had La Cuina d’en Garriga for almost 10 years, originally starting it as a market to showcase local products, before evolving into a restaurant. Now they serve a combination of Catalan classics alongside innovative French cuisine with an international flair.
The wines are mainly Catalan with hints of French and other Spanish regions. Garriga works with local wine distributors who focus on quality and affordable options, and bring some of the best of Priorat, Penedes, Montsant, Terra Alta and Emporda. Clos Figueras, Rebeldes, Terra Remota, Alta Alella, Syndicat de Priorat are a few of the featured vineyards with the top rated Font de la Figuera from Clos Figueras alongside Camino from Terra Remota as my go to wines.
Garriga features a lunch and dinner menu offering, with casual fair at lunch alongside their dinner menu. Their secreto iberico is one of the best in Barcelona, as is their Steak Tartare with a hint of spiciness. I also recommend as an appetiser their sobrasada which is purely fantastic. The ceviche is simply divine. You also will enjoy quality locally sourced products arriving daily, and the best coffee in Barcelona, provided by Nømad Coffee.
The restaurant has a very urban and relaxed feel on one side, and a bar feel on other side, joined at the back by a private “bodega” or “cave” with a very intimate feel. The atmosphere is busy, so if you’re looking for a super quiet intimate dinner, this is really not your spot. However, the spacing of the tables gives you privacy for your conversations and dining experience.
Make sure to make a reservation for lunch or dinner. You definitely want to ask to be seated in the “bodega” when you make your reservation.
