We love this fucking place. Opened four years ago by two Italian transplants who have become part of the fabric of Barcelona with their reputation as brilliant in the bar world, Matteo Bertozzi and Nicola Drago decided to open their fucking restaurant in Raval. Since opening they’ve landed great local acclaim for more than just their name. Combining three distinct spaces into one experience, Fucking starts off with a bar entrance, leading to a great dining area, with a downstairs private room fitted with a wine cellar.
Wine
MFR has compiled a unique and broad celler of natural wines, and includes some hard to find, obscure and tasty varietals, including a great selection of Catalan wines. Oriol Artigas (DO Alella), Rosa Maria Torres (Conca de Barberà) are just two of the ones we have enjoyed there in the past. You won’t be disappointed with the local selection, and maybe, just maybe you can sneak one from Rueda.
Cuisine
They have put together a great menu combining the best elements from Italian and Catalan cuisine, and everything is sourced local, ecologic, and just brilliant for a meal, or for a tapas tasting experience. If you’re not sure what to choose, they have a tasting menu available (35€) but we recommend the pulpo, the steak tartar, the burrata, and anything with meat. Their steak (Onglet) is to die for, and you will thoroughly enjoy the desserts. If you can sneak a peek, you can also check out their herb garden they have, whose seasonings occupy many if not most of the plates.
Atmosphere
The fucking atmosphere, the fucking service, and the fucking interior design is a fucking great combination of historic Raval stone work, combined with woods, and a sleek aesthetic that screams understated cool. Group engagements in the celler is definitely an option for a corporate gathering, team building, or just a group of friends who want to enjoy each others’ company for an extended session.
Secret Tip(s)
If you are dining for 2, and you forget to book a reservation, you can always enjoy an intimate meal at the bar. It’s always nice for a first date to break the ice.
